Diagnostic Ultrasound for Injury Assessment
Same-day, physician-performed ultrasound to accurately diagnose musculoskeletal injuries and guide recovery.
What is
Diagnostic Ultrasound?
Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound is a real-time imaging tool used to evaluate muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and nerves. Unlike X-rays or delayed MRI referrals, ultrasound allows us to see the injury as it moves, identify active pain generators, and correlate imaging directly with your symptoms.
At Physician Coach, ultrasound is not an add-on — it is central to how injuries are assessed and treated.
Many musculoskeletal injuries are treated based on symptoms alone. This often leads to:
- Prolonged pain
- Delayed healing
- Ineffective rehab plans
- Unnecessary imaging or referrals
- Identify tendon tears, tendinopathy, and inflammation
- Evaluate ligament integrity
- Assess muscle strains and healing
- Detect joint effusions and bursitis
- Visualize nerve entrapment
- Compare injured vs non-injured side in real time
This leads to faster diagnosis, more targeted treatment, and a clearer path back to activity.
Diagnostic ultrasound is especially useful for common injuries seen in active adults and athletes, including:
- Shoulder pain & rotator cuff injuries
- Elbow pain (tennis elbow / golfer’s elbow)
- Hip pain & tendon injuries
- Knee pain & patellar or quad tendinopathy
- Achilles & ankle injuries
- Muscle strains and tears
- Chronic tendinopathy
- Overuse injuries from training or sport
Not all ultrasound exams are the same. At Physician Coach:
- Your ultrasound is performed by a physician, not a technician
- Imaging is interpreted in real time
- Findings are immediately tied to your symptoms, movement, and goals
- You leave with a clear diagnosis and treatment plan
With advanced RMSK training and a background as an athlete, we understand not just what the image shows — but what it means for training, recovery, and performance.
- Review of injury history and goals
- Focused physical exam
- Real-time diagnostic ultrasound imaging
- Explanation of findings (you see what we see)
- Clear next steps for treatment and recovery
Appointments are efficient, educational, and designed to eliminate uncertainty.
